KHCO3 often use as electrolyte for Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (ECRR). I am looking to find the answer that whether KHCO3 acts as a source of CO2 or not? Few recent literatures also show that KHCO3 acts as a source of CO2 without bubbling CO2 in the electrolyte.

During electrochemical CO2 reduction, it is the dissolved CO2, or CO2 from KHCO3 takes part in ECRR.

How to differentiate this ?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.
