Good Day, so I had submitted a case report in a well-reputed journal, they have asked to transfer the submission to their newly created journal specific for case reports and study protocols. Is it a wise decision to transfer, as the journal is new, and not indexed in any large data base, but considering the repute of the main journal, there is a high chance that it will be in near future.
Hi Fateen, excellent question and the answer is not very easy.
I guess it depends on many factors. If you think the case is interesting and is having a good chance of acceptance in the main journal or in a similarly reputable journey, then do that please.
Otherwise, if you feel the case is vauable but its chance of acceptance in a very good journal is low, perhaps transferring it would be a reasonable option.
NB: Sister journals usually will received PubMed indexing in a few years. So that will not be an issue.
Excellent question Fateen. Actually I also faced a similar situation few days back. I did a bit of research on this topic at that time. What I understood is that, it depends on several factors.
- If you think that your article has high chance in getting accepted in another reputed journal then please withdraw and go for the other journal.
- If you think that the article might not be accepted elsewhere, and the process might take a long time and you are in urgent need of a publication, then the following factors should be considered :
* Cost of publication in the sister journal (most new journals provide free APC. If the cost is same as other open access journals, then there is no point in publishing in a less reputed journal. )
*Whether the sister journal will do retrospective indexing and archiving of your case report ( i.e, the sister journal will most likely be indexed in pubmed after 3 years. So you need to know if they will apply for archiving your article published now)
*In addition I would also recommend to take a look at the quality of articles that are already published in this journal
