The politicians and scientists of the developed world have spent decades self absorbed in esoteric and frequently faulty research and policy making. From GM crops to climate change never a day goes by without a new pending man-made apocalypse hitting our news screens and newspapers.
We have become obsessed with predictions of doomsday often constructed out of the most questionable science and are wasting vast amounts of money on projects based on no more than a computer model. Many of these scares are exploited for research grants and some, like climate change for political kudos and commercial profit. Many have been proved fallacious.
While this is happening hundreds of millions of people are struggling to live on inadequate diets, filthy water contaminated by bacteria, viruses and killer protists. Dying and being hideously disabled by diseases we can easily treat and being denied education and decent homes by poverty.
Isn't it time we got our priorities in order?
I think this is very difficult as most of the human being are looking for power. Best regards

what would you call the underlying philosophy and its counter philosophy?
the question reminds me of futures studies
i think it relates to motivation - people have lost the ability to determine and shape their own futures

In this contect 'we' are the privileged in the developed world. We are the ones who have universities and money to burn on research funded self aggrandisement projects.
It is time 'we' spent some real time and real money on 'they' who have nothing, instead of wasting it on our own indulgences and vanities.
If you look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs and go from one country to another you will get immediate and pretty obvious answers to issues which are the outcomes not causes of problems.
We are facing various social phenomena, like the disappearance of the concept of sin in theology and philosophy. The disappearance of philosophy from schools. We have teachers who lie, doctors who poison, lawyers who lie and do injustice, demoralisation of law and lawyers, law detached from morality and truth in the hands of the powerful.
Our efforts should be based on one binding concept, the concept of truth.
Truth is like a magic wand, it suddenly opens eyes and minds to good causes. It helps understand even most complex things which we are told to be too complex for public attention. We are told what deserves attention and we are diverted from some other issues of greater importance. We have the problem of money, its origin, how it is generated, why so much money is in the hands of people who should not have it (it is not only the problem of wealth). The problem of unproductive speculative vulturous trading, profits of which are used against weaker economies and are used for ideological battles (Soros). The problems of re-emergence of financial crises. We are told no-one actually knows why they happen (really? you believe it?).
Truth, money and drinking water...
