I was just wondering if anyone tried to use any of the Miltenyi beads in tubes instead of columns, with a standard magnets compatible with the "tube" magnetic separation format. My guess would be that the washings should be more efficient in tubes, as the columns are narrow, and may contain areas where air bubbles (or clumps of cells) prevent efficient washing. Will be great if someone using the system this way comment on it.

I've never tried to do it but I would say it is doable...the only thing that i do with the column is to do an equilibration step with 2 ml of buffer so that you remove all the air bubbles and you have a much efficient isolation!

You typically cannot substitute different magnets because the reagents are optimized for the magnet they were designed to work for.
