The emission of ZnO in the glass matrix was supposed due to trapped excitons localized at ZnO aggregate interface with the glass host. One can see a broad emission band in the UV-VIS region starting from near UV edge due to the free-exciton recombination.Unlike the Rare earth ions having same excitation wavelength in any host, the excitation wavelength of ZnO defects may vary host to host but mostly in the UV region. SO u try by exciting ur sample with 300-350 nm region and check the PL spectrum and if ur getting any emission then record the excitation spectrum for that corresponding emission peak.
