Hi everyone! I need to numerically investigate turbulent regime of natural convection in closed rectangular area. So is it possible to solve k-e turbulence model of natural convection in a closed area in conjugate formulation in comsol? Or should I solve "manually" another turbulent model, which will be easier than k-e?
In Comsol version 4.3a when you want to choose and add your desire "physic" to your domain, there is a section that it's name is "fluid flow" which you can see the sub section "Single-phase flow" there. There is another subsection which it's name is "Turbulent Flow". In the mentioned subsection you can find "Turbulent flow, k-e" and "Turbulent flow, Low Re k-e". Then if you want add natural convection to your model you can go to Add physics>Heat Transfer and then add "Heat Transfer in Fluids" to your model. You can couple this tow physics (Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer) by adding Velocities of Fluid Flow physic to Heat Transfer physic. In other versions of Comsol, the solution is similar to mentioned method.

Yes! I can say most of CFD software should have this one. I like Andrea's link. You definitely want to check the proper module and use the right constants.
In Comsol version 4.4, you can choose the K-e Model in subselection "Turbulent Flow".
Yes it is possibel as K-w, you have to select it in the premodelling step
Comsol Multiphysics allows the simulation of a turbulent flow using different turbulent models, i.e. k-e standard, k-e low Reynolds number, k-omega, Spalart-Allmaras, etc.
Yes of course! but it is sometimes hard to handle it, you should know here that FEM (Comsol...)is designed for solid mechanics, however FVM (Fluent...) is well choice beacuse FVM is conservative for the transfer rates...
I think there are problems in defining the eddy term of buoyancy (say G3), as it does not directly accept this term in the epsilon equation. I thinks it maybe a big problem and currently i am working on it.
I say it is possible,I've tried it for a problem of fire in tunnel for Grashof number > 1e9. but it is hard to handle mesh where high fields gradients in comparison with fluent.
