Import of nuclear encoded-mitochondrial proteins into these organelles is coupled to translation. Can you suggest a biochemical method that would allow us to separate ribosomes actively translating mitochondrial proteins?

This could then be followed by polysome profiling and next generation sequencing technology. The objective would be to selectively ask which mitochondrial proteins are being translated actively in cells.

Disclaimer: I am not a translation expert but I think think this would be an interesting experiment...
