Computational Biology and Bioinformatics research involve the development and use of computational tools to conduct analysis on biological data. Is it possible to integrate and apply computational thinking into the development of these computational tools? and in what ways?
Yes, It is possible and it is growing bigtime since the past decade. It must be a collaborative effort of Bioinformaticians, Molecular biologist and system biologists.
It is possible only by knowledge sharing. There are several groups across the world who are currently trying to explore the secrets in biology with their computational thinking. I know several PI/Researchers who work closely with programmers to get their work done. This is not just possible without the researcher having a computational thinking.
End of the day its only their computation thinking that helps him/her explain the research question to the programmer.
