I would like to test some essential oils samples for antioxydant activity (DPPH) and i would like to know what is the best solvent to disolve it, i found in some articles that they use MeOH but i'm not sure about that.
The solubity of essential oil depends on the temperature as well as tje percentage of alcohol. The maximum solubility is at 70% alcoholic solution. So you can try with 70% methanol solution.
, you should try a less polar solvent but you have to check in the bibliography if it may be used for DPPH assays, you ll also have to use this solvent as a blank to delete the solvent's absorbance, check also if the solvent will not interact with DPPH and give you a false positif. good luck and best regards.
Dear colleagues, thank you for your responses and recommendations. Yes indeed, i have used methanol to dissolve the essential oil for the DPPH technique and it works. Best regards
