I know that there are extraction techniques for investigation on inclusions in steels such as electrolytic extraction. Then, the filtered inclusions can be characterized by SEM or XRD. Is it possible to use such methods for nano-meter precipitates?
Why dont you use your XRD results to calculate the crystalline size of precipitates based on Scherer equation?
Babak, element specific X-ray absorption spectroscopy may work, we conducted such experiments some years ago for reactor pressure vessel steel materials with e.g. Cu and Ni precipitates. Check

Yes, it is possibl. Many nano particles are extracted and then characterized. carbon replica is one method used through TEM, electrolytic process is also used for extraction of carbides and characterization through XRD or SEM.
