I would like to offer a topic for a bachelor thesis - build and design of such a sensor. However, it is almost impossible to buy just the waveguide, since all products (found using google) are from China, and ordering amount is in kg (so the price is in hundreds of USD). So far, all big producers of sensors in Europe refused to help (or no replies from them at all), not even possible to buy "spare parts".
I have been working on a commercial magnetostrictive transducer but, built one is a challenge.... Good luck with that,
