I recently ordered Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate from Sigma Aldrich cat. # M2393 and it came as one big clump. The technical department said there were no complaints for that particular batch but could not confirm if clumping was normal..so I was curious if others found that to be a common state for that chemical.
Magnesium chloride hexahydrate is hygroscopic, i.e. it attracts water and thus tends to form clumps. This does not affect its quality. To counteract the formation of clumps, always transport magnesium chloride in an additionally sealed bag.
You may dry the hexahydrate that somehow uptaked moisture in hot dry air at 115 ºC; hereafter cooled in desiccator and weighted in a relatively dry environment.

You may consider to standardize prepared solutions by methods of chloride titration (e.g. Mohr’s Method).
Hi Guys！
If I were to try and dissolved an even ratio of MgCl and Water (1:1), is it possible to get it fully dissolved and fully liquid? I understand there is a possibility of super-saturation, but I actually am keen to see how I can get MgCl to be dissolved with the least water.
Any suggestions on techniques, grains size or structure that I can test with?
