In a three-electrode cell, what difference (if any) would there be in the observed redox reaction / CV plot if the working and counter electrodes were made from the same or different materials. Assume similarly inert material choices, for example gold and platinum. Either both working and counter electrodes gold, both platinum, or one gold and one platinum; under what circumstances would it matter?
If using a a pseudo-reference electrode matching the counter electrode material (e.g., Pt counter electrode and a separate Pt pseudo-reference electrode), is this equivalent to a two-electrode cell using only a working electrode and a single, combined platinum counter and reference electrode?
