I too agree with you, surely it helps to enhance the research work in the research field. I can give a better example here when the machine learning and AI concept introduced, only it has utilized by some counted number of streams like Computer science, and electrical, etc. But now a days ML and AI techniques are widely used by all streams like agriculture, civil, medicine, etc. Similarly, we can also consider the example of Nanotechnology.

I am asking this because in my case, I had education on accounts and finance, marketing and human resource management which are a lot different from each other. I was benefited. I firmly believe my interdisciplinary background gives me a unique perspective on social justice issues, which informs my teaching and research. I see things differently therefore I ask different questions in my research. I think an interdisciplinary background can be a tremendous asset if you can use theories or tools from each discipline to inform your scholarship.

Thank you for your contribution. It is indeed a pleasure to get to know your opinion. I say this because there are not too many people who have this interdisciplinary educational and research background. Such people always look at things differently.

Personally I have degrees in 3 distinct areas, engineering, social work and GIS. However in terms of skills I have used them interchangeably and thus the product of my work is much more valuable than if I had training in just one area. Diversity is always good and helpful in problem-solving.

In my case, I covered areas like Finance, Marketing and HRM. I would like to receive your opinion about these disciplines. Would you call them related or unrelated? This is because in a way they are related. They are all branches of Business Management. But they can also be called unrelated. Finance deals with money and related matters. Marketing deals with sales, customer development, increasing visibility of the product etc. HRM deals with managing human resources.

Great question. I totally agreed with all the submissions. It's interesting to have ideas of many disciplines. However, it's better if there is a line of best fit between all the disciplines. For instance, I have B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD in Applied Mathematics. Yet, I have a deep idea in Education. In fact, the basis of my published reports on Meta-Analysis was acquired within the scope of Education.

It's possible to know something and not deeply understand. More so, understanding naturally set in while pursuing the same thing deeper and deeper. In Education, there is something called integration of knowledge. This happens when someone combine various related concepts together to establish something else. One disadvantage of having education from different disciplines is inability to reach the top ladder of a discipline. This should not be a problem to someone who is not planning to function as a faculty officer in a university.

I just recalled something now. We all love gold. But, how do people get gold from the soil? After detection of the spot, they continue digging that spot down the earth till they get the gold. This implies that, we should not deviate too much from the decipline we started with. This may affect our focus power.

Example two, let consider foundation of houses. After the foundation is built, next thing is to follow the pattern. However, someone could easily abandon the house and build another. That is not good enough because there is joy in completion of a project. I hope this would help us to guide younger ones on the issue of career path. Thank God we are all enjoying our career path and progression, there are many people out there struggling to be happy just because of the disadvantages of deviation and lost of focus.

This is very good question. I started my career with a bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine Surgery. Then I completed Post Gradate Diploma in Ayurveda Surgery. (Shalya Tantra), Apart from that, I completed my Attorney-at-Law for being a Lawyer, I gained my Insrumental Music Visharadha Degree in 2009, when I was a undergraduate student. I do, but really concentrating on one rather than several is a matter of personality. I would have been bored concentrating on one. It may not help your career, as with one set of qualifications you progress straight and upward, but it helps your knowledge base. My degrees are in Ancient History, Classical Civilisation (History, Literature and Philosophy), psychoanalysis and sociology.

I see that this is solved, but thought I'd add to it, as it is an interesting discussion. I think that if you become able to do something completely different to what you are paid to do, it benefits you both as a person and as a worker / researcher. For example, the ability to play music well enough to please yourself. Or it might be to draw or paint. I think it improves you in your salaried role.

In my opinion this depends. But as long as you are able to earn qualifications from different fields while balancing your professional and academic stability it would definitely help. I also believe that this isn't easy. You need to have a such a good passion for learning.

Actually it depends on the person's attitude. Some are interested to gain knowledge by earning the degree from more than one discipline and some are concentrated in one discipline.
