When do we need to consider longitudinal inertia effect in finite element analysis?
The frequencies of longitudinal modes are higher than the bending frequencies. So if the range of frequencies of your interest is well below the first longitudinal frequency, then the longitudinal inertia can be ignored.
Normally you shouldn´t need to consider the axial inertia effects... at least for practical purposes.
