Most of the farmers are broadcasting Urea at the time of puddling. Is this is the best time to apply urea just before transplantion? Actually, urea is not persists for longer time, roots are also not well developed in this stage, and seedlings are not also properly established in the soil to uptake nitrogen from urea. So, could please suggest me which is the best time to apply urea, at puddling time or after 1 week of transplantation ???
It is better to apply urea in a non-puddled soil , before transplanting of rice....
Urea always acted best under aerobic condition, though it has been apply in split way so that you should apply 1/4 to 1/2 dose of recommended Nitroge
as urea before transplanting and rest at later stage to avoid denitrification under reduced condition. Under non puddled condition there is no issue of when to apply. If you would like to apply under standing water, urea should be incubated with soil for 24 hours then this soil may be apply, or urea mud boll can also be use or urea supergranules can be other option.
