I have seen in most of optical papers that people use COMSOL or sometimes Lumerical FDTD to simulate the structures in optical regime. I was wondering if simulating such structures can be done by HFSS or not.
In my opinion, the Lumerical FDTD + COMSOL are the powerful softwares to obtain accurate results. I have tried HFSS which is more related to microwave studies. You can refer to the Facebook page for HFSS and discuss with admins of the page.
Lumerical software brings advanced tools in the optic field, which makes your research-rich of details that HFSS can not give. Furthermore, Lumerical produced a massive database comparing with other software.
Finally, I would like to thank you for this question.
I have seen very limited options but not as advanced as Lumerical FDTD. You also need to check on the new version of HFSS, since they have combined the simulator cores with ANSYS.
