I want to start research regarding Brain dominance and some concepts of positive psychology. That is why I ask whether or not it is a research area that is relevant now. If not could you please suggest what is a better fit to research on?
Hemispheric brain specialization is an active area of research, however it encompasses a wide variety of functions not circumscribed to the old held belief of analytical vs creative cognitive style. It encompasses affectivity, attention and sensory processing and depending on your area of research you will find different hemispheric activity across the brain. Concerning emotional reactivity and behavior, there is a left-right division in the Prefrontal cortex. The Left PFC promotes appetitive behavior and the Right PFC - aversive behavior. That translates well into many personality and mood disorders such as Depression and OCD, symptoms of which can manifest in the healthy general population. Depression is correlated with decreased activity in the Left PFC - a lack of appetitive behavior and anhedonia. The brain dominance is relevant if you think it is relevan in your proyect; but the research indicated that is not a dominance , is a automaticaly post definited. So is necesary a laterality definited.
