Need to know to interpret article concerning density and in-tank shelter.
Dear Malin,
I study mediterranean E. marginatus and adults of this species are considered solitary and territorial. They aggregate to spawn and males may then defend females and/or shelters. I have also read a couple of papers on other groupers and it appear to me that other groupers show the same kind of behaviour.
From what I have seen in public aquarium, they are often kept individually (maybe because of territoriality issues) when in small tanks.
