For the current scenario, e-Learning can be adopted as there is no other go. But e-Learning can be simplified and the technology used shall be simple and easy so that even students from areas with low internet connectivity can be benefitted.
But when we come to face to face learning, blended or flipped learning would be better.
In e- learning method remains helpful to the student in their study but such overall disturbing problems in case student have to undergo e-learning may be helpful has student can study at their working at home .
In this line some years back I have expressed my views which I submit herewith for your perusal
E-learning may be a interesting method for class room teaching & it is likely that it may save the time of students & teachers both for imparting training & grasping the teaching subject .But with this the system becomes more of a mechanical practices & coordination with the student & teacher perhaps may be lacking in closeness.
Face to Face class room teaching is nothing but a touch of attraction where students & teachers while learning may help to establish their relation in proximity . With this a personal touch of teaching & students may grasp their subject of study from the teachers in a lively ,intelligence & personal mode .
At least for the students primary & secondary level it would be good practice their face to face class room teaching may prove to be beneficial to the student .
E-LEARNING is effective, provided there is enough scope of interest pulling of student's/learner's. E-LEARNING is beneficial via relevant case studies with suitable explanations/or with the references and appropriate examples. Graphics, tables, block diagram, etc creats interests among the learner's/
It actually seems to be the best option for now. We as teachers have to keep in mind that this teaching and learning style put greater responsibility on the students which we had always complained about (Resposibility).
There are many reasons why online programs are a common form of distance learning in higher education today. The online environment offers unprecedented opportunities for people who would have had limited access to education, as well as a new paradigm for educators where dynamic courses of the highest quality can be developed.
In these circumstances, e-Learning is the suitable solution for continuing teaching process. However, in the normal situations, this teaching method can be a support to face to face teaching.
In our situation right now, yes, it's a basic requirement. But we can also consider the modular approach which can also be used for offline learning. This can be helpful to students who do not have access to the internet.
I think this is an exciting time for faculty who teach at the college level. I’ve been teaching graduate-level courses online for 20 years and my accelerated students were asking for online courses 15 years ago when they felt that coming in to the school for a course took away from their very limited but valuable time. Online learning can be engaging and interactive using the tools we now have available and the students who do not speak up in class are given a voice. Can engineering be taught online? That is a decision that will need to be made looking at the technology available which is substantial. I teach in a nursing program and we had to move all of our courses online last spring. We are now looking at creative ways that we can give students the opportunity for hands-on practice and clinical experiences while keeping them safe. Creative scheduling has also supported our efforts. The box in which we have comfortably taught for the last several decades has been ripped away from us and we can either mourn this loss or look at the creative ways in which we can enhance and improve student learning.
Here in the Philippines,we call it remote learning and there is a module to be given to students. Distance learning has been introduce many years ago and then blended learning but now it is emphasize because of the current health situation. We cannot get out of e-learning because that is the future scenario in education. But blended learning is better.
Under these conditions of partial reservation, e-learning will continue for a certain period, but new methods must be sought that serve virtual reality and an auxiliary for traditional education.
I think it's a good discussion Mutasem Z. Bani-Fwaz , I don't think that one modality can be better or worse than the other, but it depends on the context, educational level and other factors. It seems to me that at that moment, when not all students have access to remote education due to social and economic inequality. And also in the current context that the recommendation is to avoid crowding people, e-learning could serve a large part of students with conditions, so that students who actually need classroom teaching could do it with less risk because there would be a much smaller number reducing the risk of contamination.
Anything that can be done in non-contact mode and is reasonably effective, will be used more during the current times i.e. as long as cures are not discovered.
