I have been trying to freeze-dry a solution of Diallyl trisulfide (DATS) to remove the DMSO in order to analyse DATS via HNMR. However, I am getting very little DATS. I am thinking that DATS could be quite volatile and I am losing it while freeze-drying.

Looking at DATS the Boiling Point (BP) at atmosphere is 92°C which is well under that of DMSO - at 189°C. The MW of DATS is higher than DMSO, but a lot, but given this initial look at the BP it is potentially more volatile. Generally if the BP is lower at atmosphere the BP under vacuum is that much lower, but that rule is not absolute, there are solvents that don't follow that rule. Given your comments, I suspect the DATS is more volatilve that the DMSO, but additional data such as the vapour pressure at different atmospheric / vacuum pressures I cannot easily find.

DATS is essentially non-polar, so it's far more volatile than DMSO. Hence the bp, which is half that of DMSO. I think you're definitely removing it during the freeze-drying process. Try a simple distillation. Good luck with the smell.
