I have rarely come across the term Culicidology and Culicidologist as the study of Mosquitoes and the people engaged in mosquito research/study respectively
Although I work with mosquitoes I have not heard the term before. A google search returned 400 hits for culicidology. It appears that it actually is a recognized term although rarely used.
Although in Google more than 400 hit are retrieved, if you search in PubMed/Medline there are no results: "Your search for Culicidology retrieved no results."
This term is not in usage among those who are actually working on mosquitoes whether anophelines or others. Someone must have coined such a term based on the family culicidae of mosquitoes. A search retrieves some results one of which is a old usage of 1966 used in a book review of science magazine. Marriam webster dictionary states that culicidologist is the one who studies mosquitoes just like a bacteriologist studies bacteria. Its a nice term though its never too late to popularize a nice term. I surely will try to use it in my papers
