I'm currently experiencing more diverse signs for Rabies virus in animals-particularly in domestic dogs and donkeys. But when we send samples to the laboratories, the results are more often positive.
Can anyone help me with the rationale behind this, please?

Rabies virus (RABV) has high mutation rate due to the low fidelity of viral polymerase, resulting in a diverse pool of RABV. While the non-synonymous/synonymous ratio is relatively low, the antigenic relationship between epidemic RABVs and current vaccine strains must be constantly monitored.

If the genetic code of the rabies virus experienced enough changes, or mutations, its incubation time could be reduced dramatically, scientists say. Many viruses have naturally high mutation rates and constantly change as a means of evading or bypassing the defenses of their hosts.
