Hi, I was P.I. in a similar study: the aim was if the essential oil mouthwashes (menthol, eucalyptol, thymol) were able to reduce the set of symptoms of patients affected by primary BMS.
Most of the abstracts I have seen which mention essential oil mouthwashes do not specify the oils that were included. As essential oils have different properties and different effects when blended, its not possible to say which oils are most effective. I am preparing some information for a Professional Essential Oils Therapy course, and looking for evidence based information - not always easy to find!
For a phytotherapy of an infection I used oil of salviae officinalis and oil of myristici semen as solutions in grape seed oil. After taking some drops of the oils orally over the time of a week the plaque in the mouse and on the teeth, which was build because the infection, disappeared.
Dear colleague I have published a study regarding selected mouthwashes in reducing halitosis. It is in Persian but English abstract can be accessed in internet. Perhaps it can be useful. I am familiar with mouthwashes content therefore feel free to contact me. I will provide you any information as much as possible.
