For IMAC - i guess Nickel NTA  is the best assuming yr product has a histidine tag.For Hydrophobic pHENYL and Octyl Sepharose are routinely used with Ammonium sulphate as the salt of use.Some materials utilise polymers like AMBERCHROM from Rohm Haas as Hydrophobic seperations.YMC and DAISO too must be having polymers for hydrophobic seperations

Thanks, I was actually referring to more specific info. We are looking at GE's Ni sepharose excel resin for IMAC and their Capto media for HIC. Is this the industry standard or is there other media we should consider? 

GE is obviously the standard especially for Ion exchange and HIC -I have not used their IMAC columns -only long ago at a very small scale so Id go with GE.

I would advise to screen different resins from different suppliers. The article High-Throughput Screening of Chromatographic Separatios: II Hydrophobic Interaction from Kramarczyk et al might be of great help.

In general, alkyl (e.g. butyl, octyl) ligands show pure hydrophobic character.
