I thought you might also be interested in how was addressed the case of a little girl who suffered aphasia due to an unfortunate accident. This particular case was followed closely and documented by a renowned French Pedagogue, Jeanine Cougnenc. Summarily described in this file.

I cannot help concerning aphasia, but your question about narrative style reminded me of Mari Sandoz' biography of Crazy Horse, Crazy Horse, Strange Man of the Lakota.  

It was published in 1942 from source material collected in the 1920's and 30's, meaning that she interviewed people who actually knew Crazy Horse and remembered the events from their youth.

The reason that I was reminded of this book by your question iss that the book was written in Lakota oral history storytelling style by someone who knew that style well.

It may not help you with your formal research, but it is a fascinating book for both its content and its storytelling style.

The work of Keith Basso with White Mountain Apache (and other Athabascin languages) might provide some information for you. His "the uses of Silence" and "Portraits of the White Man" would be good places to start.  Deb Tannen's edits of the Georgetown Roundtable Conferences would be another good source.

There doesn't seem to be that much in the Aphasia literature on diversity issues but I agree that they are very important. The polyglot work of M. Paradis is a starting point but I can't think of specific works on Native American languages either in analysis or rehabilitation.

Many years ago we worked with several Navajo speakers at the VA in Albuquerque NM but the primary issues were lack of resources and accessibility. Additionally, we were primarily focused (at that time) on neurological processing not language, culture, and discourse per se.
