Hi guys. I'm facing a institutional divergence about the BSL of a expression plasmid carrying the HIV env gp160 protein. They are make trouble believing it is a bsl 2 agent. Is that true? If is not please, being an institutional matter i appreciate official references to leave no doubt about the biosafety classification of this plasmid.

Yes any engineered or isolated products from viruses are BSL 2 and some higher.
The WHO has these global standards and regulations that most institutes follow.

thank you. but nowhere in the manuals you sent me they talk of sub genomic DNA. they are meant to provide guideline to work with whole virus. They not even use biosafety level codification.

The only definitive source is going to be the NIH Guidelines themselves, so I would look to those.
thank you but I couldn't find any part of the guide lines talking of working with the plasmids otherwise I wouldn't ask over here a source.
