I have conducted semi-structured interviews and i have the interview transcripts ready. Since my thesis is based on a framework derived from prior literature i will be using a deductive approach for coding before putting the text in the software. i was wondering if there is a need to also identify if i will be using thematic analysis, content analysis, or ground theory, or is a deductive approach by itself a method.

I'm not sure, but will follow the responses of others, and hopefully assist further down the line. Grounded theory would use deductive and inductive approaches.
Deductive approaches are not appropriate for grounded theory, but Braun and Clarke (2006) explicitly discuss them for thematic analysis. In addition, you can start with a deductive set of codes and then add to them or modify them in what is known as a "hybrid" approach (Fereday & Muir-Cochrane, 2006).
In addition, content analysis is often exclusively deductive (Hsieh & Shannon, 2005).
Each method had its pros and cons. It all boils down to the question you are trying to answer and the most effective (and efficient) way to address it.
In my opinion you now clasify your data. It could be done with inductive or with deductive coding schemes. You choosed deductive scheme and this is all you need. But this type of data clasification is also known as quantitative content analysis.

David L Morgan , is deductive analysis enough or should it be combined with thematic analysis or content analysis? I am struggling to define if deductive analysis is a method that stands on its own!

I am not convinced that a deductive approach is a method in itself but I am sure that a deductive approach in content analysis does not have to with whether it is qualitative or quantitative analysis.
A deductive approach in content analysis is well suited for a qualitative analysis if you have a coding scheme or a framework to apply in the analysis.
Yes, a deductive approach is sufficient by itself, and this is very common in media and communication studies that work with existing texts. Of course, as always, you need to have a solid justification for making that choice.
Hello all,
I am having the same problem as yours. i am doing a deductive case study approach in which i identified the enabler and barrier factors from the literature. So, the themes and the sub-themes are known for me.The primary and secondary data collected are used to search for code that can be justified the choice of relevant themes and sub-themes for the case company. With keeping in mind that some codes may not find their way in those themes, so, new theme may emerge. Then, modification process will be conducting by moving some themes with other ones, delete some and, change names for some. In end, i will write a report of the finding which contain an example from the data and some of my interpretation that link with the literature review.
So, is this process belong to thematic analysis if yes approach of whom or i am far way from thematic analysis to content analysis approach.
