I think that "proximal" is "near" and distal is "far",
but the figure I have attached say that

I think that the apical region of hyphae is distal. Is there any misunderstanding to me ??
You are correct. Distal means far away from the point of reference (may be nucleus/cytoplasm), proximal means near to the point of reference.
What description you have quoted says the same thing.
