Can the data on coding sheets (MS Word document) be directly copied on to SPSS or does the data have to be typed in SPSS? Can you advise me on how coding sheet data should be recorded so that it can be easily transferred on SPSS? Thank you.
In general, the best way to transfer data from MS Office applications to SPSS is via Excel. If your Word document is formatted as a table, it should be easy to convert it to Excel.
SPSS is a data base, and for mix data between different programs you need an archive with spaces and semicolon. To do it with Word you need to save it in txt mode and with some rules. It's easier if you work in programs like excel that can be save in that format directly (text format, with date separate by semicolon). Then in SPSS you must import that file. Also works with PSPP, the free GNU program. Afterwards SPSS will ask you to define each data.
