Pictures should be as uniform as possible in terms of background, male or female, could be color or black and white. But I need quite a lot of pics - hopefully around 360.
Here's some websites with data sets that might help, although many are with/for facial expressions. The specifics of differing ethnicity with neutral expression, may be a bit more difficult to find as an existing data set.
The face stimuli from the Tarrlab (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA) include different ethnicities and different emotional expressions, including neutral.
Another option would be to use Face Generation software. You can systematically vary skin tone, gender, even degree of relatedness. The faces will all be neutral. But they will not have hair or clothing - just facial features. Here is one of the simpler ones:
Here is another type of software that may be of benefit. http://www.academia.edu/3797849/HapFACS_1.0_Software_API_for_Generating_FACS-Based_Facial_Expressions Good luck!
Depending on your needs, these may be useful as the number of photos is very large. Other sets of non-prisoners can be found on the web,
(found with google face database) e.g., http://www.face-rec.org/databases/, http://web.mit.edu/emeyers/www/face_databases.html, http://vasc.ri.cmu.edu/idb/html/face/ (and lots of others from this search)
Apart from the usual "Faces" subtests of memory assessments, there are face databases such as the Yale Face Database (Google it, I believe it's freely available) etc. Do you require normative data though? I don't know if it will meet your requirements, but an older test that was used in research with patients with Prosopagnosia was the Benton Facial Recognition Test.
Yair, sorry for the delay. No, I don't think so, other than acknowledging that that is where they are from. There are often concerns publishing pictures in the journal articles, but I don't think issues with using them in research.
Hello. I'm not sure that is exactly right. At least here in the US, prisoners maintain their right to privacy and that may mean photographs of their faces (or any photos) cannot be used without their consent for research purposes. To be safe, I suggest contacting any IRB board that would be necessary for any of your human subjects research.
Do you know how to get NimStim Face stimulus dataset? The contact details from http://www.macbrain.org/resources.htm are not working any more. Thanks in advance!
