Can water plus 0.02% merthiolate ?

Serum is at least a crude mixture of several proteases. Keep it frozen and in aliquots. The protein in the serum will protect your antibody sufficiently.

If not, add some NaN3 (0.01% and 1 mmol/L PMSF).
