An alginate solution can be mixed with CaCO3, which is not soluble in water at neutral pH. Glucono--lactone is then added to the alginate/CaCO3 mixture in order to dissociate Ca2+ from the CaCO3 by low- ering the pH. The released Ca2+ subsequently initiates the gelation of the alginate solution in a more gradual manner

What are the required concentrations of each of these solutions to achieve a stable gel?
Prepare 1% wt/v alginate aqueous solution,
0.0045 g CaCO3 + 3 ml alginate solution,
0.0160 g glucono-δ-lactone + alginate/CaCO3 solution,
glucono-δ-lactone to CaCO3 molar ratio is 1 : 2
Gelation within 30 minutes
