I have filter paper that has been sampled from environment and has PM on it but I want to isolate and characterize these PM to work further on it.What technique should I use.
You can extract them easily by gravimetric analysis. The procedures are -
Filters were then placed particle side down in 100mL glass beakers containing a 9:1 solvent (methanol: sterile Milli-Q water) and sonicated for 2 min at 40 kHz in a water-bath sonicator
After sonication, filters and the beaker were rinsed with methanol to remove any residual particles and all rinses containing PM2.5 were stored in a closed 50mL conical tube at −20 ºC until concentration. The filters were left to dry and equilibrate prior to gravimetric analysis for determination of the PM2.5 mass removed from each filter.
Thanks Sheikh Mohammad Famim Ahmed and the PM are ib conical tube now. How can it be concentrated. Either I have to centrifuge it and the pellet has all the PM or I have to lypholize it to concentrate.
