can this time interval be for 6 months ? if the data is collected twice in a period of year.

what is the degree of freedom if some of the participants vary from the the initial data collection.
There is no minimum. Consider things like timing of firing of neurons in those studies, and I am sure there are examples in physics with much shorter intervals. The more general point is don't be too concerned with the labels people apply to things, look more at what is being done.

The appropriate time interval depends on your research questions/hypotheses. If those can be addressed appropriately with this design, then it should be fine.
