I have prepared aerosol from a receipt given in J. of Non-Crystalline Solids 285 (2001) 57 -63:
1 Mix 7.37 g ethanol, 0.108 g water, and 2.46 g aluminum tri-sec-butoxide in a beaker/flask and cover/plug.
2. Heat mixture to 60°C and stir for 45 min. T
3. Cool the mixture (sol) to room temperature.
During electrodeposition sol gels and very bad quality coating i get.
Could anybody help me?
Is the needle metal and insulated electrically? If it is then you could be getting a build up of charge on it and that would lead to gelling. If this is the case then ground the needle.
Thank you for your answer. Needle is metal and is connected to high voltage supply.
You may use some solvents to low the viscosity, or use a metal needle with larger inter diameter.
As solvent I use ethanol (99,99%). Less concentrated sol remains cloudy even after 3 days of stirring.
Use more solvent and sequence of adding the ingredients is important, At first add required amount of acid to alcohol solvent, after good mixing, add your precursor drop wise (During 30 min). Adding water will accelerate the hydrolysis process and makes the sol cloudy and since it is irreversible, it remains cloudy after even 3 days.
