I am having trouble preparing an extract and calculating the required dosage and concentration of the extract. When using decoction as my extraction method, do I need to use rotary evaporator or freeze-dry my filtrate so I could get a solid or powdered plant extracts? Is it by then, I'll be able to calculate the amount of extract to be administered since I need 2000 mg/kg? Please help. I just don't get it. Thank you.
Yes, you will have to dry your extract to be able to assess its dry weight first.
However, you don't necessarily have to administer it in powder form. You can dissolve/suspend it to a standard concentration (mg/mL) that will allow you to calculate how much volume of solution (mL) will contain your desired dose.

To got the desired weight you have to dry your extract and then you can use the dried extract to prepare your solution in mg/ml. You can then calculate the apropriate volume containing your desired dose for administration.

Thank you so much. But what if through the process of decoction i got a concentration of 10g/L does is stil matter after rotary evaporation? is the concentration of the dried extract be 10g/L too?
If you already know the concentration of your extract, you can calculate the volume containing the desired dose right away. If your extract is 10g/L, you can use 200mL/kg for a dose of 2000mg/kg.

Then you can use it as a stock solution and do dilution to got your dose for administration.
