I have two hybrids both showing resistance to particular disease in okra. Which would be the best method to exploit the resistance character to develop a new resistant OP variety.
To develop a new open-pollinated variety of okra with the desired disease resistance, you can use the "Reciprocal Recurrent Selection" breeding method.
Reciprocal recurrent selection allows you to combine the best traits from both parental populations while maintaining genetic diversity, leading to the development of a new open-pollinated variety with enhanced disease resistance and other desirable agronomic traits.
I would suggest backcrossing your hybrids to one of the parental varieties (preferably one which has been sequenced) and then performing linkage mapping to identify the causative loci.
