if your problem is missing bands I would rather check the transfer with Ponceau S staining on the membrane and Coomassie staining of the gel after blotting. Generally I don't see why Coomassie shouldn't work on your gels.
To transfert proteins from en IEF prepared gel to a mebrane in order to make a Western blot it better to add a SDS-PAGE step in a very concentrated acrylamide gel.
The IEF strips are recover of a thin plastic protection to help handling and to avoid drying. This plastic protection isolate the gel from the electric filed that inhibes transfer.
