In principle it seems possible that polymer binds to more than one particle same time. This might especially happen at lower and medium polymer concentration. This may be the reason for two populations of particles - stable, dispersed particles and network forming particles. Could same proceed for the coated particles described as we observed in our work (link below)?

I can only read second paper, first one is not available,
as far as I know, and I read many paper on this topic, plus I am going to repeat same experiment as your second one ( except with different polymer) that it depends on size of your polymer and coating technique. Usually, problem is that nano-particle consume to large concentration of polymer, not opposite way, This thing can be checked with AFM, SEM ,TEM... I dont know polymer that can coat more then one particle, even if it do, I think that will directly influence at fictionalization of polymer ( assuming that you want to use it for pharmaceutical research) In this case people will probably want to use particle size less then 22 nm,as far as I know for gene delivery nano-particles are small, any binding of more then one is noticeable,
