Wanted - aqueous polymer solutions with reproducible viscosity behaviour.
Observation - viscosity of carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt - CMC (Roth Art. Nr. 3333.1) depends on aging time (number of hours mixed on magnetic stirrer, but also on number of hours stored under quiet conditions). Several technical grade CMC samples are available too).
Working with Carbopol proofed even more problematic. Solutions containing seemingly clusters despite looking homogeneous, caused inconsistencies in resulting viscosity.
Dear Titus Sobisch , polyelectrolites because of their ionic groups (CMC and Carbopol has -COO- groups) have the specific problem. Due to their aggregation properties they can not show very close results. I suggest you to make your experiment with non-charged polymers.
Also, you can receive close results if you remove polyelectrolite behavior with dissolving them in polyelectrolite solutions, like NaCl. NaNO3.
