I am trying to pole Barium Titanate Composite Samples using Corona Poling. Specifically, its a polymer matrix which holds the BT particles. I want to make sure certain things from the experts -
1. How do I know that I have not reached the dielectric breakdown of the sample ? Should I pay attention to the current reading on the amp-meter ?
2. While the poling process is going on, is there a way I can determine whether it is successfully going on or not ?
2.After poling, is there a quick way to confirm whether my samples are successfully poled ?
3. I am using the following parameters - Potential Difference: 3kV/mm, Corona Poling height - 1 cm, Temp- 50 C (As my polymer has a low melting point) ?

I will answer some questions.
The dielectric breakdown in air depends on several factors such as electrode distance, corona electrode shape, ambient temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, voltage magnitude, and polarity.
You can experimentally determine the electrical breakdown in the air for constant electrode distance and polarity at your set-up. For example, you make 10 dielectric breakdowns and then calculate the average dielectric breakdown. Then you determine what maximum corona voltage you will use, for example 70% of the calculated average dielectric breakdown (Vb).
In the range of 0 volts to Vb, you can connect an ammeter to measure the corona current.
In the case of using a polymer matrix (barrier), the situation is more complicated, since by inserting the barrier between the electrodes, the breakdown voltage usually has a different value. The breakdown voltage depends on the thickness of the barrier, the polarity of the voltage, and the distance of the barrier from the grounding electrode. However, you can experimentally measure the breakdown voltage with a barrier in a similar way as described above.
