One source described them L1 as the number of interstitial solute-empty interstitial bonds, and L2 as the number of interstitial solute-substitutional solute bonds. However, they used the modifiers W1 and W2 (coordination numbers of the solvent and solute) out front of the term when defining it, which do not appear in the actual equations.
