I am interested in opinions, comments or comparison based on practicle use of dendrochronological software such as WinDendro, Tree-Ring MatLAB, treeclim, Precon 5.1, dpl-R, or other programs for similar uses.
I have to scan and build master series of almost 400 cores of beech (Fagus sylvatica) for dendroclimatological analysys and any suggestion for producing the best results would be appreciated.
At this stage, the programs that I would use after building of the tree ring serise are likely to be Cofecha, Arstan, and Dendroclim2.
I prepare Arstan and i would recommend to contact either Neil Pederson or Ed R. Cook at TRL@LDEO, Columbia university for further assistance.

All these program that you mentioned are very accurate and they are broadly accepted in dendrochronological studies. Presently, R software has a huge application and many people are working on it developing new tools linked with Dendrochronology as an example you can check:

To work with scanned images I have worked with LignoVision of RINNTECH and I got good results, I know also that WinDendro is a very good option. However, for data analysis I prefer to work with the R package dplR because you have more flexibility in your analysis.

For measuring, we have Cdendro program developed by Cybis. It is image analyzer with blue ray and you can check in detail below link http://www.cybis.se/forfun/dendro/helpcoorecorder7/index.php
Its amazing program and easy to use.
In our lab, we used a scanner together with CDendro and CoRecorder, those two software are cheap and convenient with a lot of functions. Turning to crossdating, we use PAST5 from which we can see curves as well as statistics, we think sometimes curves have more information than only statistics to avoid errors.
