For hybrid solar project I am looking for a diesel generator protection system..
The solar system runs normally connected to the grid and excess power is normally exported to the grid.
My question arises when the grid is not available diesel generator is manually switched on and switched off when there is again grid power available. There are hours when the solar power exceeds the load of the system. Then excess solar power needs to be dumped.
- One option is to dump the power in an electric heater of the maximum solar capacity. I have considered an electric heater of the maximum solar capacity . This option wastes a lot of diesel fuel. Outages especially in the summer can be quite lengthly.
- I am presently looking into a power relay near the inverter that switches the solar array of when the grid power is unavailable. this requires a signal cable from the grid tied transformer to the inverter. we can not switch the power cable to the building where the solar army is an essential facility.
In this case the signal cable has to be longer than 100 m.
I would like to get suggestions for a better solution
