I am a atudent (business psychology) and I prepare my bachelor thesis. The main aim of the thesis is the validation of two translated scales.
For the translation I adhered closely to WHO Guideline "Process of translation and adaptation of instruments":
- Forward translation
- Expert panel Back-translation
- Pre-testing and cognitive interviewing
- Final version
How would you validate statistically the scales?
Now you need to pretest the final version in your intended population. Depending on how large your targeted population, you need a large enough sample to pretest it it. A rough estimate is recruit at least 10% of your the intended population for the main study. In any case, the more sample the better.
After that, you can then run reliability (the popular one is Cronbach's alpha) and validity (many types are available, e.g. content validity, construct validity and discriminant validity) tests.
