Quality is a measure of standard achieved by the product against the predefined norms. Though it is a perception it is a relative term. How you perceive quality depend upon you. For illustration if it satisfies consumers for the value he has paid, it has reached the expectations of consumers and it is therefore Quality product. Quality is the dimension of perception which means the product is free from defects and deficiencies and therefore acceptable to the target audience.
Quality is actually attribute of the product which involves continuous process of conforming to the desired standards of products predefined by all- Customers, designers, manufacturers, consultants and seller.
Quality of any object is a function of satisfaction of the user. It could be the collective attribute of several features such as durability, easiness, functionality..etc.
Rai- Quality is about meeting or exceeding your published standards. Willa Foster said it best - quality is never an accident, it is about having high intentions, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution. It is about making the wise choice among many alternatives. Amir
Quality is defined as achieving a high degree of good quality and good value. Quality is a reliable criterion to distinguish from other achievements in the same environment and in the same field.

Only proper testing reports of standard laboratories can be considered as proofs of quality of a product.
Customers are influenced by advertisement, packaging and many other business tricks. A product is famous and having excellent sale does not necessarily prove it's excellent quality.
Customers satisfaction is not an indicator of quality.
A good definition of quality control is: “the process of inspecting products to ensure that they meet the required quality standards”
This method checks the quality of completed products for faults. Quality inspectors measure or test every product, samples from each batch, or random samples – as appropriate to the kind of product produced.
The main objective of quality control is to ensure that the business is achieving the standards it sets for itself.
In almost every business operation, it is not possible to achieve perfection. For example there will always be some variation in terms of materials used, production skills applied, reliability of the finished product etc.
Quality control involves setting standards about how much variation is acceptable. The aim is to ensure that a product is manufactured, or a service is provided, to meet the specifications which ensure customer needs are met.
Dear Rai, there are many definition that define the quality. However, regardless of how you will define it, still there is a need for reliable and measurable instruments.
Quality means a set of criteria that are put to judge the quality of things, whether goods or publications or scientific research or agricultural products and others.
Quality is the result of that a job in the best and most accurate way is done. There is also a linear relationship between satisfaction level and quality. In fact, quality is an indicator of the respect to one's self, her/his work, and other people.
Perceived Quality is something that can add value to a product. If you can produce a product to a high degree of accuracy time after time, then it can create a movement and a perception of quality. Rolex has a high perceived quality.
A lot of auto manufacturers also have this high perceived quality, but it would be interesting to compare FTT rates or warranty claims with a mass produced brand for example to see who is producing the highest quality in terms of warranty. Its a complex issue because it can relate to value, the more one spends the more quality is expected and sometimes assumed. Also, the higher price the higher the scrutiny of the product from the customer.
I suppose you could say that if you purchased a prestige marque you will expect it to use the highest grade materials. However, if the car is breaking down all the time, although, the perceived quality is high the actual quality of the product is low. Just another spin on quality.
Quality as I understand it in my day to day. Is the checking a products accuracy against a defined specification. Its generally non value add. What I mean by this is, if we where producing the product using the same consistent process, we should produce the same quality product every time. The problem is variation in manufacturing process and this variation creates a need to check the product for variation and therefore if we could remove variation we could remove quality controls.
