Feel no problems with rocky-shores: dominated by canopy-forming fucoid seaweeds, barnacles and mussels. Spans in E Atlantics from Northern Africa to the Barents Sea, by phytogeographic data (i.e. Van den Hoek 1975, Jüterbock et al. 2013). But what about sedimentary shores? How to define, how to contour?
For soft sediments it is more or less the same: from France to West - SE Barents. It could be characterized by semi-diurnal macro-tides; soft bottom associations with dominance of Macoma+ Arenicola and Fucus+Mytilus+Semibalanus on hard substarates.

I will send you copy of paper by Cowardin et al on Classifying wetlands and Deep Water Habitats. Much of USA and coastal shallow waters is mapped with this system, applying some degree of ground truthing of delineation by remote sensing.
This classification has been used extensively for many years. Field verification has been used when mapping remotely to address specifics. There is a division for subtidal and intertidal in marine and estuarine systems, and there is a tidal subsystem in the riverine system. This scanned copy did not have cover page.
