there should be standards for this method on different standards, for instance you may try to search ASTM website and search your keywords there and then identify the standard, afterwards you could find a way to reach that standard. as you have mentioned ASTM has the standard, what is the problem in following the standard?

Thank you. I tried to search but could not find any suitable standard, both ISO and ASTM on their website. Is there another recommendation?

my pleasure. maybe you could take a look at the papers which have done this kind of experiment and use them as reference or use a closely related ASTM or ISO standard and modify it to suit your own conditions, sometimes the exact thing one wants would not be available in the standards but generally the concept of the standard could be followed. i hope my answer helps you.

you are right about that, but for example when you go through the standard you see in some parts the exact number is not mentioned, there is just a limit or a recommended value, there you could change and still reference the standard, some places there is no exact standard (like your case) so i believe you have to make your own, important fact is that when designing your experiment, you do it in a way that it is reproducible and minimizes the effect of unknown parameters.
