To write a personal letter for post doc. application, you have to give more emphasis on your short biography where you have to add appropriately in your capability and also try to focus that you are very much committed to do this work. I think for post doc. the main thing is your completed PhD research work, therefore, you have to give more emphasis to complete your PhD nicely along with a number of high impact factor articles, and you have to mention your achievement in the application letter.
Plan ahead, sell yourself giving attention to details, go through the intended host's research interests thoroughly, personalize your emails and state what you hope to gain with regards to your career goals.
I recommend writing only 2 to 3 lines which can reflect your expertise and supervisor's research interest.
For example, "my research focuses on.......I have achieved #numbers and quality publications.
